If you have read any of the articles I write for Steel Media, not required reading, then you will have noticed I have a tendency to bash a few companies. Namely, Square Enix and Nintendo. And I don’t hate them, I just occasionally disagree with stuff they do and think it has a huge negative impact on the hobby and industry I adore. It comes from a place of love. Now, having said that, this week’s first story absolutely does not. This is pure frustration. I despise this level of greed.

Nvidia is trying to bankrupt gamers

We are starting with a fall from grace. I loved Nvidia and its components. I game on a laptop with a GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, which means this will be worth more than gold soon. If reports are to be believed, Nvidia is going to be pumping up the price of their components by a drastic amount.

The culprit is, of course, AI. All those companies need a metric ton of components, so Nvidia can charge them as much as they like for the necessity. And that increase will affect us, too. There will be less available for the public, leading to a supply and demand issue. Reports state that a graphics card could run you up at least $5,000.00 before long.

Nvidia Graphics card

And it isn’t just the graphics card they are hitting gamers with. Oh no, it’s a double feature this week. Their game streaming service, GeForce NOW, will now be capping paying subscribers at 100 hours of gameplay a month. That is between 3 and 4 hours a day. Which is a lot, sure, but you are paying £10 or £20 a month for a service, so it should not be giving you a time limit.

Quite frankly, I have always disliked GeForce Now. You can only have a gaming session of about an hour before it kicks you out, which is ridiculous. So maybe I shouldn’t be surprised they are putting a limit on time, too. But don’t worry, you can always buy more time, in chunks of 15 hours, if you run out. Maybe Nintendo isn’t the greediest company out there.

Be upstanding for our King Yoshi-P

Was that an unnecessary punch at Nintendo? Yes, but it also gave me a flimsy segue into our next story. This one might not be incredibly reliable; I don’t have enough hands to say how many pairs this has passed through. According to a translation from the New Year’s message of one Yoshi-P, long may he reign, Final Fantasy 14 might be coming to Switch.

Most likely just the Switch 2, but this is still exciting. I adore Final Fantasy 14, and I will absolutely buy it again on any console it is released on. However, I won’t buy a Switch 2, so that puts a damper on the plan, but it is an exciting step in the MMORPG’s story if it does. Hopefully, we will be past Dawntrail by then; it isn’t a strong advertisement for the game.

Suzuki creates a work of absolute beauty

This one is filed under “dreams that will never be achieved” for multiple reasons. Suzuki will be attending the Tokyo Auto Salon 2026 in Chiba this month. You might be wondering why does this matter, their cars suck. And correct, they do. But, amongst the vehicles they are bringing lies the DR-Z4S Monster Hunter Wilds Edition.

A bike with Monster Hunter Decals

Just look at it, it is an absolute beauty. It is a concept model, so it is not officially going into production, which is a big reason I can’t have it. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, I can’t ride bikes. Even pedal ones, I have a balance issue. But I would get a medical degree and cure myself if that ever got released for commercial sale.

Atlus launched a website and my brain melted

It is our fourth and final story this week, because I spent most of it raging about Nvidia. Atlus has launched a special website for the 30th Anniversary of Persona, and I need whatever they are doing as a celebration injected into my veins post haste. Persona is one of the greatest game series in the world.

I am not including Persona 5 in that. I didn’t bond with any of the characters, and then I got to Mementos. Morgana did the vehicle thing, and I was just done at that point. I can’t explain why, but it is the most visceral “nope” moment I have had in a game. But the rest of it, yes, please. Persona 3 FES was my entry point on the PS2, and I am one of those fans who want Makoto to be freed. I don’t care if it undercuts the story’s poignant story; give him back.
